Together with our partners, Northern Kenya Fund is transforming the lives of Northern Kenyans through the power of education. With an emphasis on girls, we are uplifting locals to create systematic change in their own community– empowered to address challenges related to climate change, poverty, and access to resources for years to come.
Our Impact
Mission · Vision · Systems of Change
Education changes everything. Here’s how our purpose, our hope, and our method align to unlock opportunity in Northern Kenya.
Our Mission
To support deserving and high-achieving Northern Kenyan students in attending secondary and university level schools. We place special emphasis on scholarships for female students, who face fewer opportunities to attend secondary school and beyond.
Our Vision
To utilize the gift of education—and in turn the power of knowledge—to curb poverty in one of the most remote and marginalized regions of Kenya.
Our Systems of Change
When we provide education to a child, we are not only elevating them, but also equipping them with essential tools so families and communities can flourish. Our work sets in motion a cycle of resiliency that endures for years.
“If you educate a man, you educate an individual. But if you educate a woman, you educate a nation.”
— African proverb
FAQs
-
We primarily support students from Northern Kenya, with a special emphasis on girls and underserved communities. Students are selected based on both financial need and academic potential, ensuring that those who would otherwise be left behind have access to quality secondary and university education.
-
Our scholarships cover tuition, uniforms, books, and essential supplies. Beyond financial aid, we provide mentorship, counseling, and leadership training. For girls, we also run empowerment programs, sanitary pad support, and household-level assistance so that their education is not disrupted.
-
We pair education with career coaching, networks, and advocacy opportunities. Students are encouraged to become change agents, participate in initiatives like the East African Girls’ Summit, and give back to their communities. This cycle ensures that beneficiaries not only graduate but also inspire and uplift the next generation.
-
Since inception, the Fund has helped over 2,300 students pursue education. In 2023 alone, 457 beneficiaries were supported, including 247 girls currently in school. Over 1,250 girls have advanced through access to education, mentorship, and empowerment programs.

How It Works
We select students based on need and potential (with priority for girls and local communities), provide scholarships and supplies, pair learning with mentorship and household support, and develop confident change agents who uplift their communities.
Selection based on need & potential
Students are identified with an emphasis on girls and local communities. Scholarships cover tuition and essential learning costs so promising students can attend secondary and university education.
Fees, uniforms, books & supplies
Financial support unlocks actual school access: fees are paid and students receive uniforms, books, and supplies needed to succeed in class and beyond.
Confidence, networks & leadership
County-wide mentoring and the Girls Empowerment Programme build confidence, peer networks, and participatory leadership skills alongside career coaching and counseling.
Basics secured to enable learning
We work with families to ensure home life supports learning—assisting with essentials like water and sanitary pads, plus tools to withstand climate shocks and practice informed family planning.
Voice, advocacy & opportunities
Students engage in causes they care about—participating in initiatives like the East African Girls’ Summit—gaining a platform to advocate at county and national levels.
Graduates who uplift communities
With education, confidence, and strong networks, graduates become teachers, doctors, activists, and local leaders—returning value to their communities and inspiring the next cohort.
